About the physiotherapists

Karen Coughlan
Karen graduated from University College Dublin in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (Honours). She then went onto achieve a Masters Degree in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, Australia, where she also came top of the class. Throughout her training and since, Karen has had a wide range of experience in treating work, home and sports related injuries. Karen is an ISCP Level 3 Accredited Physiotherapist in Sport.

Since 2005 Karen has been the National Physiotherapist at the Irish Hockey Association, working with the womens senior and junior age-group squads. Karen is the Chartered Physiotherapist with the Tipperary Senior and Under-21 Football Teams. She attended the Youth Olympic Games with Team Ireland in Singapore in August 2010.In 2011, Karen worked with the Swim Ireland High Performance Centre in University of Limerick for September.

Karen has held the role of Secretary and Chairperson of the Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine group, a sub-group of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.

Having played ladies gaelic football from a young age in Glanworth, Co. Cork, Karen has more recently turned her attention to running. She is a member of Dundrum Athletics club and ran her 4th marathon in Berlin in 2010.

 

Stephanie Grace H.Dip Clin Ther BSc Physio (Hons) MISCP
Stephanie Grace MCSP MISCP graduated from the University of Bradford where she studied for three years. She went on to secure a Junior Rotational Post in York District Hospital. In the hospital the areas Stephanie worked in included;

  • Care of the Elderly
  • Neurodegenerative Diseases e.g. Parkinson’s and M.S.Head Injuries
  • Respiratory and I.C.U. On-call
  • Medical and Surgical
  • Stroke

 Stephanie returned to Ireland in 2009 to undertake a Masters in Clinical Therapies at the University of Limerick. On her return to Ireland Stephanie worked in a large private practice in Kilkenny where she treated patients with a variety of conditions including sports injuries and respiratory conditions.  

Stephanie joined Cahir Physiotherapy Clinic in March 2010. In 2011 she was the Chartered Physiotherapist with the Tipperary Under-21 Team and the Tipperary Minor Football Team All- Ireland Champions 2011. In 2010, she was the Chartered Physiotherapist for Galtee Rovers Senior Football team, junior football team and her local hurling team. Stephanie participated in 2010's RTE’s Celebrity Bannisteoir with the Fermoy team.

Eimear Quinn MPhysio (Sports) BSc Physio (Hons) MISCP
Eimear Quinn, who was recruited to the clinic in February of 2011, spent 2 years in Melbourne, Australia, where she graduated with a First Class Honours Masters in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne in 2009. Eimear also achieved First Place International Student in the Masters Programme overall and First Place Student for Coursework and Clinical placement in Sports Physiotherapy.

Prior to moving to Australia, Eimear worked at South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel for nearly 2 years. Eimear graduated from University College Dublin with a First Class Honours Degree in Physiotherapy in 2006. Eimear is a Stott Pilates trained Pilates Instructor and has done extensive post graduate training in Dry Needling.

Eimear has been appointed to the Tipperary Under-21 Football Football team for 2012. She has a keen interest in running and triathlon and completed her second marathon in Dublin in 2011.

 

What is a Chartered Physiotherapist?
Karen Coughlan is a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (MISCP). Membership of the society is granted to graduates of accredited University Physiotherapy degrees incorporating significant hospital-based training, who have demonstrated that they are competent practitioners, educated to the highest international standards. www.iscp.ie. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development is now mandatory for all ISCP members with emphasis on evidence-based practice. The ISCP is a member of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy.
